FAQs
Jewel Box Steak is an elevated, intimate dining experience. To help ensure a seamless visit, we recommend reviewing our FAQ before your reservation.
How do reservations work?
JBS uses RESY to book tables both in the dining room and bar (21+).
We have two seatings nightly—one in the 5 PM range and one in the 7 PM range—allowing for a nicely paced dining service. Guests who prefer a longer dining experience are encouraged to book the later seating. Bar seatings are in the 1.5-hour range.
Reservation availability opens on the first of each month at 8:00 AM for the entire upcoming month (e.g., March 1 for all of March, April 1 for all of April). Depending on the calendar, we may open a few days early—such as in August, when we opened reservations on July 28 (Monday) due to the 1st falling on a Friday.
For large parties of more than six, you’re welcome to inquire about availability for special arrangements by texting the Jewel Box Steak host at (503-484-0538). We respond to these requests by text Wednesday through Saturday each week.
Do you accept walk-ins?
Yes, we have a limited number of tables available for walk-ins each night, typically earlier in the evening or after 7:30 PM. You can also sign up for the "Notify" option on RESY to be alerted if a cancellation opens up a spot.
What’s the difference between a “Bar Top”, “Bar High Top”, and “Dining Room” seating reservation?
Bar Top seating is at the bar itself and offers a more casual atmosphere. Guests here have access to both the Bar Menu and the full Dining Room Menu.
Bar High Top tables are located in the bar area and are typically set for two guests. Like Bar Top seating, they offer both the Bar and Dining Room menus.
Dining Room seating is in a more formal setting with standard dining tables and service from the Dining Room Menu only.
Important Reservation Info:
Reservations made for Bar Top or Bar High Top seating are assigned to bar area tables, not the main dining room.
If you reserve for two in the bar area, adding additional guests upon arrival is usually not possible, as nearby seats are often already reserved.
Arriving with your full party at the designated reservation time leads to a graciously paced dining experience. Arriving late increases the pace of service based on following reservations.
Can I switch my table type when I arrive?
Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee changes upon arrival. To respect all guests’ experiences and our limited seating, we are only able to seat reservations in the specific table type selected during booking. Please make an accurate guest count. For example, reserving a table for 4 then adjusting to a table for 2 on arrival could mean a change in seating.
What if the table type I want is not available?
If a table type does not appear as an option on Resy, it means those seats are already fully booked. We recommend checking back, or clicking the NOTIFY button, as availability may change if another guest cancels.
Why can’t you move me to a different table?
Each area of the restaurant has a set number of seats that are reserved in advance to accommodate all guests. Switching table types would disrupt confirmed reservations for others.
How do I make a special request?
Whether you’d like to pay for a guest’s meal, inquire about a lost item, or ask about dietary accommodations, send us a text message at 503-484-0538—ideally before service. Please note that during busy hours, responses may be delayed.
If you’ve left something behind, we’ll secure it for pickup the following service day at 4 PM.
Why don’t you have a phone number to call?
Reservations and cancellations should be managed through RESY. To maintain a distraction-free dining experience, we limit communication to messaging only. You can message us for specific inquiries, such as large parties of 7+ or other questions. Our team monitors messages Wednesday–Saturday.
What is your corkage fee?
Guests are welcome to bring a special bottle from their own collection to enjoy. Our corkage fee is $40 per 750ml bottle and $65 for large format bottles. For larger groups with multiple bottles, we kindly ask that for every two bottles brought in, you purchase one from our thoughtfully curated wine list.
Are children welcome?
JBS is designed for guests ages 10 and up. We don’t have accommodations for young children.
Can I bring my teenager to sit at the bar with me?
All bar seating is strictly 21+ only. Our bar is reserved for adults and we are not able to accommodate minors. Our dining room is reserved for reservations and walk-ins on a first-come-first-serve basis, so we may not be able to seat your party if this policy is overlooked. Please plan accordingly.
What is the dress code?
The dress code is business casual, but above all, we want you to feel comfortable. Dress up if you’d like—or keep it more relaxed if that’s your style. We’re just excited to welcome you!
How do I handle special requests or dietary needs?
When booking through RESY, you can note any special requests or dietary needs, such as gluten-free options or nut allergies. You’re also welcome to mention if you're celebrating a birthday or special occasion.
Can I bring a special dessert or cake for a birthday?
Yes! Please note your request in RESY. We charge a nominal plating fee of $3 per person.
Is the full dinner menu available at the bar?
Yes. The full dinner menu is available at both Bar Top and Bar High Top seating.
Large Party Information
Generally, our largest seating during regular service is 10 adults. Large party bookings require advance planning—ideally for the following month—so we can accommodate your group in the dining room.
We’re happy to divide the check evenly by up to 4 credit cards or provide an itemized bill to help facilitate Venmo/Cash App payments.
Parties of 7 or more include a 25% service/gratuity charge.
Please arrive on time, as we are an intimate space and have limited room for waiting guests.
Private Bookings / Buyouts
Our space can seat up to 49 guests in total across bar and dining room seating (Bar Top, Bar High Top, and Dining Room).
The dining room alone seats 32 guests for full dinner service; we can accommodate more for mingling-style cocktail events.
To inquire about a buyout or private event, please use the form on our website.
